A. R. Norris - Memorable Kisses in Movies

Ah, kisses. Gotta love ‘em. I will admit I’m not really a romantic woman, but there are a couple kisses in movies that have caught my heart. The first is purely from both my love of SF and my love of the scoundrel.

1980s The Empire Strikes Back. I love the scene where Hans and Leia kiss while repairing his ship. Their frustrated and resistant attraction to each other finally boiled over into this moment. It was, for their relationship dynamic, almost sweet, and definitely hot. I liked how they both realized there was more to this then a flyby kiss and it unnerved them a bit.

It wasn’t until 2005 that another kiss snagged me. Don’t get me wrong, there were the occasional “nice” and “interesting” and “sweet” movie moments. But it wasn’t until Darcy came striding over the hill, his jacket flapping around his legs in 2005’s Pride and Prejudice, that my heart swooned again.

Boy did that walk take my breath away. The morning sun, the green fields. Perfect. More perfect was his shy and nervous declaration of love. So worried about being jilted again by the woman he was head-over-heels for. And her quiet reply.

Of course, the most romantic kiss ever for me was the first one from my husband. It was perfect, and sweet, and memorable. No actor, no scene, no story could ever be more romantic than the romance that is ours. Two teenagers falling madly for each other, then proving the world wrong by staying passionately in love 18 years later.

Yup, the stuff of stories for sure, and I get to live it every day.

  1. Two excellent choices, Amber. I watched this P&P the other night just for this moment you describe. Love it!

  2. Wasn't it great Jillian? I think we watched it at the same time. I was going to DVR it so I could skip the commercials, but couldn't wait...so suffered through the commercials.

    Thanks for dropping by!

  3. Two very excellent kisses. :-)

I actually like the 'non-kiss' in Pride and Prejudice -- with the rain pouring down around him and he kinda-sorta proposes. Pathetic proposal, but it was that tangible 'tug' between them with as much intensity as a heated, unbridled kiss.

There have been a few kisses that tug at me every time, but you hit on a couple great ones.

  4. Yes, two terrific choices! And, I also watched that version of P & P Valentine's evening. But don't forget about one of the classic: Rhett kissing Scarlet on the side of the road, in the rain - right before he leaves her (along with whinning Prissy, ever-suffering Melony and a bawling infant) to join the Confederate army. Also, in a more recent movie - 'Tomorrow Never Dies' (@ 1997/8) - Pierce Brosnan's second Bond movie - he and Terri Hatch have a pretty steamy one in his hotel room. Actually, that entire scene is good!

  5. Yeah, it's a great scene Gail. I love how she kisses his knuckles...love, love, love. The whole thing dripped with romance and love and everything sweet and charming about the period. Those non-kiss scenes can be more satisfying than the kiss scenes.

Confession time Jordan...I'm not a fan of Gone with the Wind. And yes, I know my daughter was named after the character, but that was purely my husband's doing because he was named after a character (Ashley). I'm totally with you on the Tomorrow Never Dies. Whowzer was that a scene. Nearly lit the tv on fire with the heat.

  6. Fun choices A.R. Han & Leia ***sigh*** LOVE it! I think I really enjoyed the build up to it because Han had been talking about it since the start of the movie :)

    1. Why you stuck up, half-witted, scruffy-looking NERF HERDER!"

      Who're you callin' scruffy?

      HA HA HAH

  7. I have to admit that you chose my favorite scene from P & P for the same reason. My daughter loves a different version of P&P but I think that might change when she receives her "first kiss" from the man she marries one day. In the mean time, I close my eyes and love the sun behind Dracey, the dew on the long grass and yes, the long coat whipping at his legs as he strides down the hill to the woman he loves. Swoon.

  8. I'm wish you Jenn. It wouldn't have been as satisfying if they'd developed the relationship faster. It made the moment more worthy somehow.

Oh my goodness Shaunna! Now I have to watch it again...just because your description. (Okay, not to upset as truthfully, I watch it every other month or so, depending on my mood.)
